Hearing loss is the third most-common chronic health condition in the United States, affecting 1 out of every 10 people. That's a conservative estimate, as many people needlessly avoid seeking help and may not be included.
By age, Americans with hearing loss include:
>> 1 out of every 25 children
>> 1 out of every 14 adults aged 18 to 44
>> 1 out of ever 7 adults aged 45 to 65
>> 1 out of every 3 adults over age 65

Hearing Aids -- What to expect
Knowing what to expect from hearing aids can ensure your maximum satisfaction with them.
- With hearing aids, you should be able to hear many sounds that you can't hear without them. You should notice improved hearing in many situations important to you.
- Hearing aids help many people hear better, but they don't restore normal hearing.
- Hearing aids should always be comfortable. Re-fitting may be needed, at times, to get a perfect fit.
- Hearing aids won't allow you to hear everything in every situation. Even people with normal hearing miss things at times.
- Hearing loss occurs gradually. Learning to hear sounds again with hearing aids is also a gradual process.
- At first, sounds may seem unnatural. As the brain adjusts to hearing again, over time, things will sound more natural.
- The adjustment period usually lasts a few weeks, and can take up to a few months.
- Part of the fitting process is fine tuning your instruments to your particular hearing needs. This usually happens over several sessions, after you’ve had opportunities to wear the aids in different environments and provide feedback to your hearing care professional about your experiences.
27 Years
Certain milestones in our life merit celebration. My wife (Lisa) and I celebrate 27 years together today! My patients comment on the picture of the pretty girl hanging on my wall... I'm always proud to tell them about my beautiful wife and loving partner. With two great kids (now adults and on their own) and a wonderful wife, life is truly a joy. In this time of economic crisis, political unrest, a world that is at war, it is time that we count the blessings that we have been given -- our families, health, and a great country to live in. Enjoy your blessed life!
